Hi, my name is Mary Trufant, along with Ann White-Spunner, we are the founders of RIDEYELLOW a charity bike ride for cancer. Three years ago I started raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation because a bike ride sponsored by LAF happened to fall on the anniversary date of my Mother's death, who died from Cancer in 1998.
I was a girl, with a bike and a cause!
We raised a little over $3000. Last year, our sweet friend Sharon Meeks was diagnosed for a second time with breast cancer. We were on a mission. Friends and family banded together and we raised over $22,000 which was presented to the Lance Armstrong Foundation at their annual bike ride.
In February of this year, my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Sharon is still in clinical trials and is a true cancer warrior. Once again, friends and family, old and new, are banding together to fight this disease. Being pro-active people, we knew we wanted to DO something. The idea for RIDEYELLOW charity bike ride was born!! On Saturday, June 16, 2007, over 300 cyclists from 7 states participated in our inaugural ride. Combining cyclists and volunteers, we have over 350 people in our LiveSTRONG Army.
We are strong. We are determined. We are focused.
Our goal this year was to raise $30,000. We did it! Together, we raised $31,500. That is incredible.
Even after the RIDEYELLOW bike ride is over the fight will continue. Cancer does not take a break and neither can we. Please send out an email to all of your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and any one you can think of. Boldly ask them to support all of us in this incredible effort.
